This way the Joya-Feeling finds its way into your bath and shower without loosing its unique properties. The gemstone glides gently on your skin through the foam.

After the soap is used up the gemstone can be placed in the Joya Massage Roller handpiece.

The special smell of grapefruit gives you a fresh and exotic feeling in your shower or by taking a bath. This soap is for all your senses. The smell and the extraordinary feeling of the warm gamestone on your wet skin will make you feel recovered from daily work.

HISTORY OF MASSAGE

Massage is believed to be the oldest form of healing. The origins of massage can almost certainly be traced back to the far east, where it was practised by the Chinese, Persians and Egyptians.

2700 years before Christ, the Chinese made detailed descriptions of massage hand positions, which were to be of importance for the centuries to come. It was during the time of the great Greek doctors, such as Hippocrates (460–377 B.C.), that the massage arrived in Europe.
The Roman doctor Galen (131–201 AD) also adopted manual therapy. Its influence reached into the middle ages. This ensured that the massage could not disappear into oblivion. Later, in France and Germany, the first scientists such as the German doctor Paracelsus (1493–1541) began to make successful use of this form of therapy.

In the 18th century, massage was practised under the name of “mechanotherapy” and experienced its first period of wide popularity, particularly in France. It was most likely at this time that the word “massage” first emerged, together with the French names for the different hand positions.

However, the exact linguistic development is not easily specified, and even the origin of the word massage is obscure. It may have originated from Greek or Arabic:
  • Arabic “mass” = to touch, to feel
  • Greek “massein” = to kneadThe individual terms were taken from French:
  • Effleurage = smoothing
  • Petrissage = kneading
  • Friktion = rubbing
  • Tapotement = tapping
  • Vibration = vibration
The further development of the massage can be traced back to a period of Swedish history. In 1813, the gymnastics teacher P. H. Ling founded the “Royal Gymnastic Central Institute” in Stockholm, where he taught his views on massage and gymnastics. The hand actions he used are referred to as rubbing, pushing, walking, chopping and pinching. These developed into the forms of stroking, kneading and friction that are familiar nowadays. Today, we remember the old values of this era of development and combine them with new insights from various forms of physical therapy.
